Hagon set to follow family footsteps when representing Poole Pirates

Youngster Sam Hagon is poised to follow in his family’s footsteps in representing Poole Pirates, as he gets set to begin his inaugural Wimborne Road campaign.

The Sussex-born youngster, snapped up by Pirates over the winter, will mirror grandfather Alf’s achievements in turning out in the skull and crossbones.

And while he is respectful of his family’s legacy, Hagon is keen to create his own memories when Poole begin their season at home against Oxford on Friday, March 29.

Asked how proud he was to replicate his grandfather’s achievement, Hagon said: "Well I would love to make my own path and score as many points as I possibly can and hopefully it will be better than him!”

Hagon, who has spent the winter on the bike in Australia, is set to join a Pirates team desperate to win back the SGB Championship crown this season.

Despite claiming the BSN Series in 2023, Poole missed out to Glasgow in last season’s league play-off final and were also beaten by Scunthorpe in the finale of the Knockout Cup.

“I am really keen to build up my experience and learn as much as I can,” said the talented reserve Hagon.

“Especially with the more experienced riders at Poole. I know most of the boys really well. That is important to me, it will certainly help and I believe that I will fit in well at Poole."
